Southern Province Governor, Alphonse Munyantwari has praised Genocide survivors in Nyaruguru district for the significant emotional, economic and social progress, 20 years after the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

“It’s been a long, tiresome and sorrowful path, but glad we are holding up,” said the Governor, who hails from Nyaruguru as well.

Nyaruguru district residents have emerged from sorrow and poverty to self-reliance and a dynamic competition in the business world. The amazing development cut to child headed families as well.

“I successfully took care of my siblings until now. I also pay school fees for up to 150 other orphans,” said a survivor only identified as Rugema he works as a tour guide in Kibeho.

Over 25,000 Tutsi remains lay in rest at the Kibeho Genocide memorial.

Over a million Tutsis were killed during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis, according to figures by the Rwandan government.
