The Minister for Refugees affairs and Disaster Management Seraphine Mukantabana other say her ministry is doing going everything possible to make Congolese refugees in Rwanda attain better social welfare.
The new Refugee Camp in Gisagara district
This was revealed during the official opening of the new Refugee camp in Mugombwa sector in Gisagara district that will provide shelter to the Congolese refugees in Rwanda.
This Refugee camp will provide shelter to the Congolese refugees who were temporarily in Nkamira Refugee Camp in Rubavu district.
About 350 Congolese refugees came to Rwanda fleeing from the insecurities in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday the 19th, 02, 2014 find about the same number that had come 2 days before.
They were taken to Mugombwa Refugee Camp as a way of finding them a spacious place to live in while respecting the International Human Rights. They were warned not to destroy the environment around this environmentally stable Refugee Camp.
The Congolese refugees in this Refugee camp say so far they have been treated well in Rwanda and hope to settle and find technical work to do and provide for their needs.
Some of the residents of Gisagara say they grateful for having this Refugee camp in their districts especially with many having employment in the construction of the camp.
Minister Seraphine Mukantabana says these Refugees were brought in this new Refugee Camp to avoid the overpopulation in Nkamira Refugee Camp. Nkamira Camp had received many refugees due to the insecurities and war in the Eastern Congo who were about 10, 000 in a place that should receive only 2500 people.
This new Mugombwa Refugee camp is big and spacious, it is capable of accommodating 10, 000 people and there is space for renovations. The camp will keep receiving about 1000 refugees weekly from Nkamira Refugee Camp up to April 2014.
