Rwanda police extends Vehicle control services to Southern Rwanda

Rwanda police has extended vehicle inspection services to the Southern province of Rwanda,as a way to cut on costs of vehicle owners, when the exercise is done in Kigali. The new control centre is located in Huye district.

There has only been one check up point located in Kimironko, Kigali, near the stadium and the center is frequented by motorists especially after some have been warranted for not having the technical papers, or just a few days to the time out.

This new centre will solve the problem of long queues that motorists have had to make for long, awaiting their vehicles to be technically approved fit for the road. Police has previously accused the most motorists for not taking this service seriously thus the inconveniences and time wastage as most of the scramble to get their vehicles in the line for check up.

While launching the Southern Province service point-located at IPRC-South, on 20/07/2013, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Emmanuel Gasana said that vehicle inspection services are vital in curbing down motor accidents caused by vehicles in poor mechanical conditions

He said that though the services is temporay, in future the police will launch permanently vehicle control services to be stationed across the country especially in the districts of Huye, Karongi, Ngoma and Musanze- which are spread across the provinces and would provide services to other neighboring districts.

The Police Spokesman, ACP Theos Badege, said that this area of services has been reported for having some cases of corruption, and by bringing services closer to rural motorists, there are many chances of breaking the chain and temptations of having such cases arising again.

He called on the motorists to use and take advantage of the services and also cooperate with the police in reducing unwanted and reckless accidents caused by poor mechanical conditions of vehicles.

One of the motorists, Jean Marie Vianney Hakizimana said that such services will not only relieve the motorists of the burden of spending time and money, but also serve as a moment of learning and appreciating the need of having their vehicles inspected.

Over one hundred vehicles were inspected on day one, and at least more than seven hundreds are expected to benefit from the services, which have been brought to the eight districts that make up the Southern Province.
