President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame is scheduled to deliver an annual Coca-Cola World Fund lecture at Yale University in Connecticut in the United States. The event will take place on September 20th, at the New Haven’s Hall auditorium.

In 2012, Yale University established the ‘Coca-Cola World Fund’ aiming to support cross-cutting activities from specialists in international relations and international law; management of international enterprises and organizations, among others.

As for KT Press, hundreds of students including lecturers, university staff as well as regional and international audiences are expected to attend the event.

President Kagame was invited to the event due to his unmatched leadership achievements especially in peace restoration, unity and reconciliation, good governance, promotion of human rights, and women’s empowerment, According to Yale University officials.

For instance, Rwanda is globally the first country to have far more women the parliament amounting to 64 per cent.

The President is also recognized for his ICT advancement in the country as well as socio-economic transformation.

Rwanda’s economy shattered in 1994 due to Genocide against Tutsi, Government of unity headed by Paul Kagame invested efforts in rebuilding it and DGP per capita rose from $200 in 1994 to $ 718 in 2016 reducing people living below poverty line from 80 percent between 1993 and 1997 to 39.1 percent in 2015.

As far as ICT is concerned, nearly nine million Rwandans own cellular phones in 2016 up from roughly 3.2 million in 2010. Internet penetration was rolled out across the country.

As a guest of honour, Kagame will address regional and international participants on African development, leadership, the potential of ICT in Africa as enabler of Africa’s socio-economic transformation.

Rwanda is already a field study destination for Yale University. In 2011, a group of 15 students visited Rwanda to learn about the country’s post-genocide recovery.

Founded in 1701, Yale University is ranked 3rd in the US and among the oldest higher education institutions. Five US presidents including 19 Supreme Court chiefs, 13 billionaires and many foreign heads of States studied at the University.
