Smart initiative- a Rwanda-based software distribution company has launched the ‘Smart Parent’ project aimed at connecting schools, students and their parents.

The launch of the campaign will kicked off today at the ongoing International Trade Fair (Expo) ground in Rwanda’s capital Kigali.

The event will see Smart Initiative buy laptops at the Africa Smart Investments distribution and connect (ASID) stand.

The initial launch of Smart Parent will be implemented at Lycée Notre Dame de Citeau effective this academic year.

SMART PARENT is a tracking and monitoring software that provides daily short text messages (SMS) alerts to parents on the status of their children at school.

The tool helps parents and schools to provide the best study environment for children, with a wide ICT penetration capacity in the country, officials at Smart Initiative say.

The system also helps schools to communicate with parents and provides real time data to be used by government institution as data measurement for development in the Smart Africa agenda.

“Smart Parent” received huge recommendation by African leaders when it was presented during the recent African Union Summit in Kigali.

The distribution of laptops in all Rwandan classrooms will enable an E-learning capacity for a maximum of teachers and students in private and public institutions.

Rwanda has put ICT at the centre stage of its development-with many projects underway to turn the country into an ICT hub in the region.
