The Agaciro phenomenon continues to take over the globe. Almost two months after its inception, billions have been raised. This however, is just the beginning.
Initially believed to be a local initiative by government to raise funds to reduce dependence on foreign aid and to instill in Rwandans a sense of self-worth and dignity, Agaciro has been embraced the world over.
Rwandans living in the Diaspora did not want to be left behind in the drive to develop their motherland, and as such, following a similar drive held in Boston in the United States, the United Kingdom is now next.
The West Midlands Rwandan Community Association (WM RCA), comprised of Rwandans living in the West Midlands area of Britain, have organized the Agaciro Fund launch event, scheduled to take place on Saturday 13th October 2012, at Willenhall Social Club, Robin Hood Road, Coventry CV3 3BB.
Rwandans from all over the UK are expected to flock to the event however, and not just those from the immediate area.
Under the theme, “Let’s Drive our Own Development” Rwandans and friends of Rwanda will gather together for an evening of refreshments and socializing, and thereafter pledges will be made to the Agaciro Development Fund. The entrance fee stands at 10 Pounds, roughly Rwf 10,000. All proceeds will go to the AgDF.
Those in attendance will be serenaded by popular Rwandan crooner Kitoko, as well as various other support artists.
West Midlands Rwandan Community Association (WM RCA) was founded in 2005 as a charitable organization. Since its inauguration the community has continued to grow its membership and now boasts of well over 500 people.
The community was initially established to respond to various needs of Rwandan newcomers in the United Kingdom.
As per the AgDF official website, an estimated Rwf 20 Billion has been collected in the six weeks since its launch.
