Thousands of Gakenke residents welcome President Kagame

President Paul Kagame today said the government will no longer entertain leaders that hold back the country by delaying government projects.

“I don’t see why it takes so long to implement things we had promised. This, I think is because of negligence among leaders, but I assure you that I am going to follow up on these issues and why this negligence”.

Kagame made the remarks while on a citizen’s outreach programme this Thursday where he was irked by the fact that residents of Gakenke still lack feeder roads, electricity (at 16%) and health facilities which he had promised to provide.

The president stated that there won’t be any tolerance for the mismanagement of resources that should be used for the benefit of citizens.

The head of state reminded the leaders that it is their full responsibility to deliver on the set targets and questioned the character of those who believe that someone else will do the work for them.

Kagame questioned local government leaders on why the Gatonde health facility which was pledged in 1999 has not been built and why the agricultural seeds are still a problem that continues to be raised in the community.

“Others are thinking of tarmac roads and here they don’t even have feeder roads. I cannot believe that the issue of seeds still is a problem yet we have built an agricultural research center. Maybe the officials are sleeping instead of finding solutions to this? Kagame wondered.

Kagame also asked residents to play their role in ensuring that development is attained as he continues to push for more development in the future and underscored that although the road ahead remains long, what Rwanda has achieved to date is proof of abilities to do even more.

“Producing under capacity or slow delivery is not acceptable. We cannot be satisfied until we reach our full potential. Build on what you have achieved to do even more and faster. Achieving our goals is within our reach” he said.
