Rwandans have taken up to social media, especially Twitter to celebrate the release of General Emmanuel Karenzi Karake, aka KK; who has reportedly been released.
The release come after the representative of Spanish prosecutor told UK court that he has no basis for extradition.
“Delighted! Gen. KK coming home! This was an unnecessary and abusive process…” Rwanda’s foreign minister tweeted.
Gen Karenzi Karake was arrested at Heathrow, after travelling to London on “official business”.
In 2008, a Spanish judge indicted him for alleged war crimes along with 39 other current or former high-ranking Rwandan military officials.
Williams Nkurunziza, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to the UK, called the arrest “an insult”.
