Rwanda’s Zaina Nyiramatama appointed to AU Chad office

African Union (AU) chair Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has appointed Rwanda’s Zaina Nyiramatama as the Head of the AU Liaison Office in Chad, with residence in N’Djamena.

In a press statement, the AU said that this comes as part of the continuing efforts of the African Union (AU) to maintain an effective presence on the ground and support efforts to promote peace, security and stability on the continent.

Nyiramatama, who has been serving as the Executive Secretary of the National Children’s Council, was among other four appointees from Tanzania, DR Congo, and Mauritius to represent the AU on South Sudan, Côte d’Ivoire and Burundi respectively.

Brigadier General Rwambali Sara Thomas (Tanzania), Special Representative and Head of the AU Liaison Office in South Sudan, with residence in Juba; while Joséphine-Charlotte Mayuma Kala (DRC), Special Representative and Head of the AU Liaison Office in Côte d’Ivoire, with residence in Abidjan; and Dr. Arvin Boolel (Mauritius), Special Representative for the Great Lakes Region and Head of the AU Liaison Office in Burundi, with residence in Bujumbura.

The President of the Commission warmly welcomes these figures, which have held high office in their home country and have a rich experience in the field of peace and security.

“The fact that three of the four persons so appointed are women is not accidental, in the year 2015 that the AU has decided to dedicate the theme of” women’s empowerment “. I am convinced that the AU and Africa will benefit from their professional experience and their management capacity, ” Zuma said.

Zuma als called on all stakeholders to extend full cooperation to the newly designated officials to enable them to effectively carry out the important mission entrusted to them in the interests of the continent.

“It pays tribute to Special Representatives Liaison Offices and outgoing leaders, for the outstanding work they have done and for their contribution to the promotion and implementation of peace and security agenda of the AU” she added.
