Yesterday 28th August, a new project to help the ministry of healthy with its family health strategies was launched in Rwanda.
The project is sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development [USAID], and it will mainly improve and expand community based family health services. This will increase the use of district-level facility and community based family health services to every Rwandan.
In her remarks, the project chief of party, Doris Young said” This project was going to work with the ministry of health to provide quality health services, and it was mainly going to focus on HIV/AIDS,nutrition,malaria prevention,maternal,neonatal and child health,tuberculosis,safe water and hygiene among other issues”.
“The family health project has about four components that together will support achievement of the project’s objectives which include improving quality of health care facilities, and community based family health services, expanding access to family health services, primarily by increasing the number of the skilled health care providers, increase demand for facility and community based family health services and also to strengthen management of facility and community based family health services,” added Young.
The launch was also attended by the permanent secretary in ministry of health Uzziel Ndagijimana who in his speech said this was a project that was perfectly in line with ministry of health’s plans and it was going to help the ministry in expanding the family health services by increasing the number of skilled personnel and also in the strengthening the management of facility and community based services.
He called on stakeholders to support the project for it to be successful and also said good collaboration will help the project reach the set goals, hence help us the Rwandan.
The USAID representative Charles Pill said this was going to be a 5years project and that it will build the capacity of the Rwandan institutions to deliver high quality family health services to the Rwandan people.
“This project is going to continue with a lot of work that the previous partners of the USAID have been doing and I believe with it they will be able to achieve their goals too, “said Charles.
By coordinating the multiple delivery activities and resources, the project will help to ensure health service delivery is more efficient and effective around Rwanda.
Young also noted that implementation of their services will be according to the ministry’s instructions and where they will be needed most, and also said that this was a launch to get together all the health partners in Rwanda which they had achieved and believed they will all work together to achieve the health goals in the country.
