The Police Commissioner for the United Nations for African Missions in South Sudan (UNAMISS), Fred Yiga has extoled the professionalism and discipline which Rwanda police officers on mission in the newly born state demonstrate.
Yiga made the remarks while paying a courtesy call to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Emmanuel K. Gasana at the force’s Headquarters in Kacyiru.
The Commissioner is in the country to attend the Police Command Post Exercise (PCPX).
The PCPX was organized by Rwanda National Police and brings together twelve African countries to train on fighting cross border crimes.
Yiga called upon contingents to emulate Rwanda so that they can promote peace in the Region.
After the courtesy call, the UNAMISS Chief toured several police facilities such as Police Ethics Centre, Anti Gender Based Violence block and Isange One Stop Center, which offers free medical legal services to GBV victims.
The IGP pledged further support to bring about peace in South Sudan.
“We are determined to help South Sudan Police force get the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to prevent crimes. It is only through professionalism of the force that peace will reign in South Sudan,” said IGP Gasana.
